Skyn Iceland Review

11:01 AM

I am starting up my blog again and decided to do a skincare review on a brand that I have always wanted to try and have followed on social media for quite some time now. Skyn Iceland's aesthetic is very clean and pure which drew me in to the brand initially with the help of a few influencers speaking highly of their Pure Cloud Cream (spoiler alert: I love it). It also does not hurt that they are a cruelty free, natural and vegan brand. So I finally bought this handy little trial Detox kit from Ulta that came with their Glacial Face Wash, Icelandic Relief Eye Pen, The ANTIDOTE Cooling Daily Lotion and their Oxygen Infusion Night Cream along with their Berry Lip Fix. Oh, and I also happened to receive a sample size of the oh so popular Pure Cloud Cream at checkout!

Now, I have been using these products over the course of several months from the tail end of 2018 until now when I am writing my thoughts which are definitely fresh in my mind and I'm set in my opinions of each item. While some are lovely to use others did not quite give me the results I hoped for and I will go into detail so please read further!

Now for the breakdown (cue music).

Glacial Face Wash
Everyone needs a great face wash that not only cleanses but also doesn't strip the skin. The Glacial Face Wash is a creamy, foaming and mild cleanser that is meant to detoxify and purify the skin. The full size goes for $30 and leaves you squeaky clean plus hydrated. I agree that this cleanser is very creamy and feels great against the skin but I am left with a slightly tight feeling after I finish washing my face. Typically, this is the reason I stay away from foaming cleansers and, though this one is targeted more towards oily/combination skin, it sadly did not work for me. I can always fix the tight, dry feeling with a good moisturizer but I would rather use a cleanser that gets rid of dirt but keeps my skin hydrated.

Icelandic Relief Eye Pen
The Icelandic Relief Eye Pen claims that it is a triple action eye cream that can reduce dark circles, under-eye puffiness and reduce the look of wrinkles. A key ingredient that Skyn Iceland highlights is a plant called "Saponaria" that has stood the test of time and survived the Ice Age! This sounds pretty impressive to me and Saponaria has stem cells that help to achieve the claims of depuffing, decreasing dark circles and helping wrinkles. Now at a price point of $20, the Icelandic Relief pen does not live up to its claims based on my experience using it over the past several months. While it did add some hydration to the under-eyes I , however, did not see amazing results.

The hydrating factor is quite light and I wake up the next day with dry under-eyes. My dark circles are something I find hard to combat with any eye cream so I was not expecting much in that regard but the eye cream also did not help reduce the look of fine lines. I have other eye cream I believe to work better but eye creams as a category is a tough one. Eye creams more often than not are a miss for me.

ANTIDOTE Cooling Daily Lotion
The ANTIDOTE Cooling Daily Lotion is one of my favorite out of the six products I have tested from Skyn Iceland. It is a $45 product that claims to be lightweight (agreed), to hydrate (agreed), be cooling (most definitely) and good for red or irritated skin (um, yes) which I completely think are true  claims if you did not know already, ha. I do not have acne prone skin so I cannot attest to it helping in that regard but when I had a sunburn on my shoulders and face this cooling lotion was divine on my skin. It is definitely lightweight so sometimes during the day I will mix it with another light cream for an extra boost of hydration.

Another claim is that the cooling sensation can help decongest and detoxify the skin. I do not know if these are true and you may possibly see more results if you have oily or acne prone skin. I am more combination to normal now since having an actual skincare routine.

Pure Cloud Cream
The next product I will introduce is the Pure Cloud Cream and ummm this is my favorite skincare product I have tried from this line OMG I love it. It is all the claims and more for me! It is light and airy while still providing optimal hydration, it is perfect for sensitive skin and has no strong scent and it is just perfection in a tub. The full size is $55 to which I am completely sold on. Pure Cloud Cream also works wonderfully under makeup which is an amazing plus to an already fantastic moisturizer.

Oxygen Infusion Night Cream
At $65, the next item on the list is Skyn Iceland's Oxygen Infusion Night Cream which is almost as lovely as the Pure Cloud Cream but the key word is almost. The essential ingredient in this night cream is possibly the same plant mentioned earlier and that is "Saponaria Pumila" along with the Gosulin Agave which is a "natural silicone alternative" for plump, smooth lines. As a night cream that is supposed to balance any skin type, help dullness, fine lines, wrinkles and maximize the skins repair cycle while fighting further signs of aging does it really? I will happily agree that yes it does for my skin at least. This night cream is a bit heavier than the Pure Cloud but it sinks right into the skin and leaves the skin feeling soft. I often wake up with my face still feeling hydrated and plumped.

Berry Lip Fix
First off, the Berry Lip Fix smells delish. It smells like a berry smoothie to me which I LOVE. Moving on this lip treatment claims to be ultra-emollient and velvet-like on the lips while it soothes and restores damaged, dry lips. Its key ingredient is "wintered red algae" that will help strengthen, repair and hydrate our lips. It is $14 which in my opinion is not the cheapest but not crazy either and I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed the Berry Lip Fix at night as the last step in my skincare routine. The one thing I will say is that this lip treatment has a slight texture on the lips I cannot describe. It is not quite gritty but if you put your lips together it does not feel like a normal balm. I guess that can be that velvety texture that Skyn Iceland describes.

Okay, now remember, all the above opinions are my own and I hope you found this review helpful as well as enlightening. I collected all the information on the products on Skyn Iceland's site so please check it out if you want to know more! The products I would definitely purchase in a full size and keep in my skincare rotation are Pure Cloud Cream, Berry Lip Fix and Oxygen Infusion Night Cream. Those three are just so lovely on my skin and I see, while also feeling, actual hydrating results. Would you give any of these skincare products a go based on this review, your skin type, or interest in Skyn Iceland as a brand in general? Leave your thoughts down below I would love to know!
